Drive through the subtropical rainforest pockets to find this immaculate Mediterranean-style villa nestled between Australia’s Byron Bay and Bangalow. Situated in the tranquil suburb of Ewingsdale – reputedly Byron’s best-kept secret – this country lodge has been meticulously designed to offer luxurious accommodation with a Tuscan edge.

Inside

• Style: Sumptuous and sophisticated. As you would expect being owned by an interior designer and a professional phtographer.
• Bedrooms: 5 doubles: 2 queen-size with en suites (one with mountain views, an egg-shaped terrazzo bath and separate shower); one double en suite with a balcony and double bed (disabled access); two doubles with French doors and a shared bathroom
• Bathrooms: 3 en suites and one shared bathroom. All bathrooms have marble finishes.
• For relaxation: Kickback on the terrace and feast your eyes on views over the countryside to the ocean and the lighthouse (with a pair of binoculars you can even check the surf).
• For recreation: Throw a BBQ, do some laps of the pool with a view, play the piano or watch the 42-inch plasma TV in the grand, formal lounge.
• Practicalities: Air conditioning; laundry; open fireplace; gas heating; large 6-burner stainless steel BBQ.

Outside

An expansive sandstone terrace surrounding the house gives it a distinct Mediterranean feel and offers a variety of seating areas for a sunset tipple or alfresco dining. There is an acre of terraced gardens to be enjoyed, a good-sized pool, a pool-house with a daybed and fantastic views. Off-street parking is available for 6-8 cars and a 2-car garage can be used by prior arrangement.

Food and wine

• DIY: Available on a self catering basis, gourmet cooks will enjoy having the run of the light and airy kitchen (the whole room can be opened up onto the terrace via bi-fold doors) with granite work tops, modern country feel and a full range of European appliances. There is a large, informal eating area in the kitchen or serve up your culinary delights on the mahogany table in the dining room. Local shops and markets offer a fantastic supply of exotic and quality produce.
